The Need to Be Selective

Here’s some information from the Preface section of Brian Tracy’s book, “Eat That Frog”.  Brian Tracy states that the ability to concentrate single-mindedly on your most important task, to do it well and to finish it completely, is the key to great success, achievement, respect, status, and happiness in life.  To get yourself to this point, there is a need to be selective. Because there are limitless amounts of new tasks and responsibilities for all people, the ability to select your most important task at each moment, and then to get started on that task and to get it done both quickly and well, will probably have more of an impact on your success than any other quality or skill you can develop.  For example, if you have two important tasks before you, start with the biggest, hardest, and most important task first.  Resist the temptation to start with the easier task first. The key to reaching high levels of performance and productivity is to develop the lifelong habit of tackling your major task first thing in the morning. You must develop the routing of “eating your frog” before you do anything else and without taking too much time to think about it.
